Ambassador: China, Belarus reached broad consensus on security matters

MINSK, 1 March (BelTA) – Global initiatives put forward by China create broad opportunities to expand cooperation with Belarus, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Belarus Xie Xiaoyong said as he addressed a plenary meeting of the Young Sinologist School at the National Confucius Institute of Sinology of Belarusian State University (BSU), BelTA has learned.

“In recent years, responding to the common desire of peoples of all countries to have peace and development, Chinese President Xi Jinping has consistently put forward initiatives on global development, global security and global civilization within the framework of the Community of Common Destiny for Mankind. He proposed to use the Chinese vision to address common problems facing humanity,” Xie Xiaoyong said.

“After becoming actively involved in the Belt and Road Initiative, Belarus was one of the first countries to support and join these initiatives,” the ambassador noted. He added that China and Belarus are on the same page on matters of development, security and civilization.

“As far as development is concerned, both China and Belarus stick to the concept of people-focused development. Belarus is a member of the Group of Friends of Global Development Initiative at the United Nations,” the diplomat continued. “Both countries strongly support multilateralism and economic globalization and are committed to efforts to facilitate the recovery and joint development of regional and global economies in the post-epidemic era, and to contribute to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development,” he said.

“China and Belarus have reached a broad consensus on issues of security in traditional areas,” the diplomat emphasized. “Belarus’ initiative on a ‘digital good-neighborhood belt’ largely chimes in with the global data security initiative put forward by China,” he noted.

The ambassador touched upon the issue of development of civilizations. He noted that Chinese and Belarusian peoples are committed to peace, seek closer contacts, are willing to maintain open and inclusive cooperation, and strive to promote universal values such as peace, development, equality, justice, democracy and freedom.

According to Xie Xiaoyong, China and Belarus have everything in place to align “three major global initiatives” that are expected to contribute to the two countries’ development and security, and to promote peace and security, development and prosperity throughout the world.
