The Emergencies Ministry received a report that a crack had been detected in the structure of the bridge across the Pripyat River on the P88 motorway Zhitkovichi – D.Gorodok – the Ukrainian border at 12:20 on 7 December. The bridge was promptly closed to traffic while the Emergencies Ministry sent texts to residents of Zhitkovichi District, Luninets District, Lelchitsy District, Stolin District, and Soligorsk District to inform them about the bridge fault. It took two days to clean up approaches to the river on both sides and pour over 4km of gravel roads, install electric lights, and prepare the site for deploying a pontoon bridge. A combined team of the Emergencies Ministry and the Belarusian army started assembling the bridge over the Pripyat River on 9 December. The pontoon bridge across the Pripyat River in Zhitkovichi District was opened to traffic on 10 December.
