MINSK, 26 September (BelTA) – Belarus and Russia intend to set up a joint center for laser technologies, BelTA learned from Academician Sergei Bagayev, Director of the Laser Physics Institute, Siberian division of the Russian Academy of Sciences, before the international conference on coherent and non-linear optics, lasers, and relevant applications and technologies (ICONO/LAT 2016) opened in Minsk on 26 September.
The new Belarusian-Russian R&D center for laser technologies is supposed to open in Minsk. The center will take care of the most important and new practical applications of laser technologies, said Sergei Bagayev. The scope of research will vary from agricultural applications to using lasers for the advanced processing of oil products to get modern materials.
Sergei Kilin, Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, specified that the new center is supposed to be established within six months in line with the joint action plan together with the Siberian division of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The ICONO/LAT 2016 conference is scheduled to take place in Minsk on 26-30 September. It has been organized by the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Moscow State University. Representatives of top laser research centers from 15 European, American, and Asian countries are taking part in the conference. Participants of the forum are expected to discuss state-of-the-art accomplishments with regard to laser physics, quantum optics and atomic-scale optics, non-linear dynamics of optical systems, optics of nanosized structures, optical diagnostics and data processing. The conference will allow sharing scientific accomplishments and ideas. It will contribute to mutually beneficial international cooperation in research and development. It will help coordinate fundamental and applied research.
