Over 10 new museums in Grodno Oblast in Year of Native Land

SHCHUCHIN, 29 March (BelTA) – The Year of Native Land will see over ten new museums open in Grodno Oblast, Grodno Oblast Governor Vladimir Kravtsov told a press conference for regional and national mass media on 29 March, BelTA has learned.

The Grodno Oblast authorities have drafted a plan of action dedicated to the Year of Native Land, which envisages the establishment of new museums.

“These will be truly interesting museums both for the locals and tourists. For instance, a museum of wood will be set up in Grodno. It will be located in an ancient building of the former forestry administration in downtown Grodno,” Vladimir Kravtsov said. The renovation of significant historical and architectural landmarks will continue in the Year of Native Land, he underlined.

Large-scale renovation works will continue, in particular, at the Old Castle in Grodno and castles in Novogrudok, Krevo, Golshany, and Lida. The first results of the renovation of Svyatsk Palace (Grodno District) will be seen in 2018.

“The Year of Native Land will see several high-profile events and anniversaries. Grodno is turning 890, Zelva is turning 760, Ostrovets and Dyatlov will mark their 550th and 520th anniversary, respectively. We need to team up to clean up our cities for the celebrations,” Vladimir Kravtsov underlined. Grodno will host the Festival of Natinoal Cultures in early June 2018. Plenty of interesting festivals will take place in the districts, for instance, a tomato festival in Ivye and a festival of bagels in Smorgon.

“It is important to pay closer attention to urban beautification this year. Every citizen should keep memory of his or her birthplace and make every effort to develop the native land,” Vladimir Kravtsov emphasized.
