Myasnikovich: Belarus can become a platform for IT cooperation in CEI region

MINSK, 30 May (BelTA) – Belarus can serve as a platform for IT cooperation in the Central European Initiative (CEI), Chairman of the Council of the Republic Mikhail Myasnikovich noted during the session of the CEI-PD Parliamentary Committee in Minsk on 30 May, BelTA has learned.

“I cannot but speak about the topical issue of digital transformation. Belarus can take on the role of a platform, intellectual ‘testing site' for IT cooperation in the CEI region. We have all the experience and knowledge to do this,” the spokesman said.

According to him, informatization is Belarus' top national priority. The country has adopted a strategy and a government program on developing the digital economy and the information society in 2016-2020.

Mikhail Myasnikovich believes it is important to strengthen the multilateral cooperation on the CEI platform. “We could use this platform more actively in order to promote the projects in transport, logistics, energy, IT, education, and culture in the CEI region. This would strengthen regional ties within the framework of the initiative,” the chairman of the Council of the Republic remarked.

He underlined that Belarus has never viewed Brussels as the principal focus of its European agenda. “National parliaments and governments have always had an equal if not a greater importance for us. Our proposal is to use and develop such ties in such organization as the CEI,” Mikhail Myasnikovich summarized.
