MINSK, 20 March (BelTA) – The Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church plans to hold a session in Belarus in October 2018, Metropolitan of Minsk and Zaslavl, Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus Pavel told journalists on 20 March.
“The Holy Synod plans to convene in Belarus. His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia is expected to come together with permanent and temporary members of the Holy Synod on 13 October ahead of the feast of the Intercession of the Theotokos. The plan has not yet been adopted,” Metropolitan Pavel remarked. He specified that the session of the Holy Synod will probably take place on 15 October.
It is an honor for Belarus to host the upcoming event, he added. “Let us hope that the Holy Synod will convene in Belarus from time to time,” the metropolitan said.
In his words, last year a possible visit of Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia was discussed with the head of state. The president noted back then that the Russian patriarch is always a welcome guest in Belarus.
