MINSK, 9 August (BelTA) – Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev met with Chairman of the State Border Committee of Belarus Anatoly Lappo on 9 August, BelTA learned from the Belarusian embassy in Baku.
During the meeting Ilham Aliyev and Anatoly Lappo discussed the exchange of experience in border security between the two countries.
According to the State Border Committee, Anatoly Lappo is paying a working visit to Baku on 8-11 August. The visit takes place within the framework of an agreement on cooperation between the border committees of Belarus and Azerbaijan. In particular, Anatoly Lappo met with Azerbaijan's border service chief Elchin Guliyev. The sides discussed bilateral interaction and cooperation in the CIS Council of Border Troops Commanders.
The heads of border services shared information about the situation on the state borders of the two countries, development trends, challenges and other topical issues having an impact on border security. Taking into account the fact that in 2019 Minsk will host the 2nd European Games the sides reached an agreement on the exchange of experience in ensuring border security because the 1st European Games took place in Baku in 2015.
It is expected that as a result of the visit the State Border Committee of Belarus and the State Border Service of Azerbaijan will sign a plan of cooperation for 2018-2019.
