State Control Committee to review passenger fares in Belarus

MINSK, 22 February (BelTA) – The State Control Committee has been instructed to review passenger fares in Belarus. President Alexander Lukashenko made the statement when hearing out a report on the tax and excise policy in 2016.

“I am convinced that we will find the reserves. I mean passenger fees incorporate certain nonproduction and other costs, the President said. “Let's see what share of costs is covered by people and let's analyze these costs. The fares need to be revised.”

Alexander Lukashenko stressed that passenger fares were previously increased in December 2015, and the wellbeing of Belarusians has not improved since then. “What has changed? Have people become richer that we increase railway, regional or municipal transportation rates?” he said.

“I will not approve of these unpopular measures which will hurt the population once again today,” the President added.
