Lukashenko urges prompt implementation of agreements in EEU

MINSK, 28 October (BelTA) - The Eurasian Economic Union member states should not mark time while implementing the agreements, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said during a meeting with the heads of the government delegations of the EEU and the CIS member states in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

Alexander Lukashenko noted that during an economic downturn the countries naturally tend to use protectionist measures. “But we set up the union as a more in-depth integration entity in order to overcome crises and stagnation in the economy, respect each other's interests, and develop a common market,” Alexander Lukashenko said.

The head of state noted that the countries have set a clear time frame for the implementation of the agreements. These decisions need to be implemented, no matter how hard it can be. “For the time being the situation is not very encouraging. In many areas there are significant delays. Often we are just making no headway. A typical example is the elimination of exemptions, barriers and restrictions to trade, of which there are several hundreds,” Alexander Lukashenko said.
