BURABAY, 16 October (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko presented the Order of Friendship of Peoples to Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev at the extended meeting of the CIS Heads of State Council on 16 October, BelTA has learned.
Alexander Lukashenko emphasized that his Kazakhstani counterpart has made a big personal contribution to the establishment and development of friendly relations and strategic partnership between Belarus and Kazakhstan. In this context, a decision was made to honor Nursultan Nazarbayev with the Order of Friendship of Peoples, the highest state award of the Republic of Belarus. The Belarusian leader congratulated the President of Kazakhstan on this event and presented the order to him.
The President of Belarus stressed that Nursultan Nazarbayev has done a lot for the development of the Commonwealth of Independent States using his rich experience of work in the post-Soviet space and the experience of work in the Soviet Union.
“He came up with the idea to establish the Eurasian Economic Union, has always been in favor of integration,” Alexander Lukashenko said. “These efforts help strengthen friendship between our nations and improve living standards in our states.”
Nursultan Nazarbayev, in turn, noted that Kazakhstan is building and will build friendly mutually beneficial relations with Belarus for the benefit of the two nations. During the narrow-format meeting the heads of the delegations congratulated Alexander Lukashenko on a convincing victory at the presidential election and wished him every success in this responsible work.
Belarus and Kazakhstan maintain an active political dialogue at all levels, are strategic partners. The sides productively cooperate in the integration platforms of the EEU and the CIS, in international organizations, including the UN, the OSCE, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Belarus and Kazakhstan successfully implement the program of economic cooperation for 2009-2016.
