Lukashenko demands proposals to reduce government bodies' functions, reasons for audits

MINSK, 24 February (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko has instructed the Council of Ministers jointly with the Belarus President Administration and the State Secretariat of the Security Council to introduce proposals before 1 June 2016 to reduce the number of functions fulfilled by government bodies. The norm is contained in President's decree No.78 of 23 February 2016 “Concerning the measures to enhance the effectiveness of the social and economic sector of the Republic of Belarus”, BelTA learnt from the presidential press service.

The President expects proposals to cut down on extra and duplicating functions of government bodies, watchdogs and law-enforcement agencies, as well as to minimize audits, reduce the number of supervisors, reasons for holding such audits and enhance the role of public prosecution in observing laws.

Apart from that, proposals should be presented before 1 June to improve the system of recruitment and manpower deployment, training and retraining (including abroad), enhancement of motivation for the achievement of results in the social and economic development.

Proposals are also expected to improve the order and rules of appointing (dismissing) heads of state-run organizations and the companies where the state owns 50 and more percent of shares.
