Lukashenko: Belarus will continue to build digital economy

MINSK, 24 April (BelTA) – Belarus will continue to promote the digital economy, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said in his State of the Nation Address on 24 April, BelTA has learned.

“We will continue to develop the digital economy. The government has been instructed to draw up proposals on setting up a strong and effective ministry in this area. Here we need a thoughtful approach. We should thoroughly study and calculate all the aspects of the work of the new agency,” Alexander Lukashenko said.

A year ago, Belarus launched a course to build an IT-nation. “Since then the activity of the Hi-Tech Park has markedly intensified. The export surged by 25% to surpass $1 billion, which happened for the first time in the history of the Hi-Tech Park,” the head of state noted.

It has only been four months since the ordinance on the digital economy was signed. “The IT industry called it a revolutionary document. In terms of certain legislative positions we have become on a par with the most advanced countries. Today we see that we did right. Just take a look at these figures. In previous years we had one company on average join the park per month. In the past three months more than 50 companies made part of the Hi-Tech Park. These are new jobs and currency revenues for the country,” the president stressed.
