Belarus president to take closer look at Orsha District industry development

ORSHA, 13 August (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko is expected to travel to Orsha District, Vitebsk Oblast today, BelTA has learned.

The head of state is expected to take a closer look at the development of the Orsha District manufacturing sector, including the performance of troubled enterprises. The distribution of productive forces, the structure and development of industries in Vitebsk Oblast will also be discussed.

In particular, Alexander Lukashenko will visit the Orsha tool-making plant to get familiar with the company's financial and economic state, development prospects, and measures being taken to secure stable and effective work. The head of state is also expected to visit other enterprises in Orsha District.

Orsha District's production sector comprises 31 companies, including Orsha Linen Mill, ZAO Ekomol Agro, the machine-tool factory Krasny Borets, Legmash Plant, Svitanak, OAO Tekhnika Svyazi, and OAO Orsha Aircraft Repair Plant. The district's agribusiness is represented by 15 agricultural enterprises.

Alexander Lukashenko mentioned his plans to visit Orsha District during the government conference held on 7 August. The president pointed out that his working trip will serve as “a litmus test for the government's work”.

“I'd rather not have a tough talk in public with ministers and the prime minister in Orsha. My instructions concerning Orsha should have been fulfilled,” Alexander Lukashenko said back then. “Tasks were set, documents were signed, and everything is closely watched. We will scrutinize everything from culture and sport to manufacturing, to say nothing of the social status of the city, its social appeal and the way it looks.”
