MINSK, 27 November (BelTA) – Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko appointed Major General Andrei Ravkov Defense Minister of Belarus on 27 November, BelTA learned from the presidential .
The head of state remarked that when choosing the candidate he was guided by the principle of personnel rejuvenation and appointed a younger and forward-looking general.
“Many cautioned me pointing to his lack of experience of serving in top-level administration bodies, him not familiar with all the rules. It might be a drawback, but it can be an advantage at the same time,” the President believes. “A smart person will always manage to sort out the situation. He often brings something new. It is exactly what we need. We need such people in both civil and military organizations.”
Alexander Lukashenko added that although Andrei Ravkov was appointed Defense Minister, he will share the responsibility for the army with the State Secretary of the Security Council and members of the board of the Defense Ministry.
