BISHKEK, 14 April (BelTA) – Armenia's representative Yuri Khatchaturov will be the new Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). The relevant decision was taken by the CSTO heads of state at the informal meeting in Bishkek on 14 April, BelTA has learned.
CSTO Deputy Secretary General Valery Semerikov told the media that the decision was adopted unanimously. Yuri Khatchaturov will be officially appointed on 2 May 2017.
The CSTO heads of state discussed measures to respond to the present-day challenges and threats in the CSTO zone. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko, who chairs the Collective Security Council, updated the heads of state on the priorities of the country during its presidency in the organization.
It was also decided to present former CSTO Secretary General Nikolai Bordyuzha, who spent over 13 years at the post, with the CSTO Badge of Honor First Class for his contribution to the development of the organization, strengthening of cooperation between its member states, and consolidating of collective security, peace and stability.
