Sri Lankan delegation to visit Belarus

MINSK, 18 August (BelTA) – A Sri Lankan delegation will visit Belarus from 18 to 25 August, spokesman for the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dmitry Mironchik told a press briefing on 18 August, BelTA has learned.

On 18 and 19 August, the Belarusian capital will host the second meeting of the Belarusian-Sri Lankan intergovernmental commission for trade and economic cooperation. “The parties will discuss matters related to the establishment of joint assembly plants in Sri Lanka, implementation of joint agricultural projects, and cooperation in pharmaceutics, medical education and tourism,” Dmitry Mironchik said. The delegation is expected to attend meetings at the Belarusian Industry Ministry and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food and also to visit OAO Amkodor and Minsk Tractor Works.

On 22 August, the delegation will take part in the third round of consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Belarus and Sri Lanka. “The consultations will consider a wide range of current issues of bilateral relations, including regional cooperation and interaction in culture, education, healthcare, science and technologies. Special attention will be paid to the development of the legal framework of the relations and to the cooperation in international organizations,” Dmitry Mironchik noted.

Besides, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatemi will be in Belarus on a working visit from 23 to 25 August. The Pakistani diplomat will attend a meeting at the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to discuss the preparations for the upcoming events, including the third meeting of the joint Belarusian-Pakistani commission for trade and economic cooperation and exchanges of delegations at different levels. “During the visit, the sides will coordinate their positions on several aspects of bilateral interaction, decide on steps to organize joint events and discuss ways to further strengthen the cooperation between Belarus and Pakistan,” Dmitry Mironchik said.

On 24 and 25 August, Minsk will play host to consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Belarus and Iran. The Belarusian delegation will be headed by Deputy Minister Valentin Rybakov, and the Iranian delegation will be led by Deputy Minister Ibrahim Rahimpur. The parties plan to discuss a wide range of cooperation matters and exchange views on current issues on the international agenda. The Iranian delegation will also meet with members of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus.
