MINSK, 26 May (BelTA) - Minsk hopes that the transfer of Nadezhda Savchenko to Kiev will have a positive impact on the negotiation process, spokesman for the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dmitry Mironchik told media, BelTA has learned.
"Belarus welcomes the fact that Russia and Ukraine removed one issue from the agenda which had long served as a hindrance to the substantive discussion of the ways to implement the Minsk agreement and make progress towards a peaceful settlement in the east of Ukraine. We hope that this will have a positive impact on the entire negotiation process,” Dmitry Mironchik said.
He added that the Belarusian side will provide maximum support to the work of the tripartite contact group and its working groups, will ensure all necessary conditions for the Minsk process to continue, for the peace to restore in the region as soon as possible.
As was reported, Kiev and Moscow exchanged Nadezhda Savchenko and Alexander Alexandrov and Evgeny Yerofeyev. The exchange was agreed by the Normandy Four leaders during their recent telephone conversation.
