MFA: Belarus will continue working with EU towards full removal of sanctions

MINSK, 27 February (BelTA) –Belarus will continue working with EU towards full removal of sanctions, reads a statement by Dmitry Mironchik, the head of the information department – spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, BelTA has learned.

“We believe that the sanctions are unjust and counterproductive. The one-year extension of the remaining restrictions against our country in the form of the arms embargo and the sanctions against four individuals run contrary to the spirit of the development of the cooperation between the Republic of Belarus and the European Union,” Dmitry Mironchik said.

According to the spokesman, introducing an exemption to the restrictive measures to allow export of biathlon equipment to Belarus, the EU only partially removed the original contradiction in its own weapons embargo. “However, the continuing arms embargo still applies to the goods that have nothing to do with the stated objectives of the EU. We hope that the positive step by the European Union to lift part of the remaining restrictions will be followed by stronger measures that will finally leave behind the policy of pressure on Belarus, a reliable partner and a neighbor of the European Union,” he said.
