European Commission delegation informed about Belarusian nuclear power plant safety

MINSK, 19 September (BelTA) – Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alena Kupchyna met with a delegation of the European Commission led by Deputy Director General for Energy Gerassimos Thomas on 19 September, the Ministry's press service told BelTA.

The sides discussed topical matters and prospects of expanding cooperation between Belarus and the European Union in power engineering.

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs underlined the importance of a mutual informative and transparent dialogue within the framework of implementation of the Belarusian nuclear power plant construction project. The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs also informed about the steps Belarus takes to ensure safety and reliability of the future nuclear power plant. She confirmed the intention of the Belarusian side to finish stress testing the power plant by the end of the year.

While in Belarus the European Commission delegation will visit the construction site of the Belarusian nuclear power plant to get familiar with the progress of the project and will continue meeting with representatives of the relevant Belarusian government agencies.
