Contact group on Ukraine to reconvene in Minsk on 20 September

MINSK, 6 September (BelTA) – The next session of the contact group on Ukraine will take place in Minsk on 20 September, BelTA learned from the OSCE's special representative in the trilateral contact group on Ukraine Martin Sajdik on 6 September.

Martin Sajdik said: “After the summer break and the beginning of the new academic year I feel that the trilateral contact group has decided to give a new impulse to our work to guarantee an autumn as calm as possible to the civilians. Our next session will be held here on 20 September.”

According to the diplomat, during today's session the subgroup on economic affairs discussed possible ways to improve payments for water supply in several districts of Lugansk Oblast. The need to protect a number of vital infrastructure installations in the conflict zone was also mentioned.

Discussions about the exchange of prisoners of war also continued. “With the arrival of cold weather the need to repair approaches to the bridge in Stanitsa Luganskaya is getting more and more topical. The sides should come up with a common decision without preconditions for the benefit of the civilian population,” stressed the OSCE representative.

The subgroup on political affairs discussed ways to ensure the special status of individual districts of Lugansk Oblast and Donetsk Oblast in line with the Minsk agreements, added Martin Sajdik.
