MINSK, 23 May (BelTA) – It would be a good idea to start consultations on the basic agreement between Belarus and the European Union. Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei made the relevant statement during the seventh annual meeting of the ministers of foreign affairs of the Eurasian Economic Union member states and Eastern Partnership Initiative participating states in Brussels, Belgium on 23 May, BelTA has learned.
Speaking during the plenary session of the ministerial meeting, Vladimir Makei said it is advisable to start consultations to determine the format and the volume of the future basic agreement between Belarus and the European Union.
According to the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the sidelines of the forum Vladimir Makei met with several heads of European government agencies, ministers of foreign affairs of the Eurasian Economic Union member states and Eastern Partnership Initiative participating states. While in Brussels Vladimir Makei held negotiations with European Commissioner for Energy Union Maros Sefcovic. The sides discussed the development of the energy dialogue and cooperation between Belarus and the European Union. The Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs informed top officials of the European Commission about the measures Belarus takes to ensure the safety of the future Belarusian nuclear power plant in Ostrovets taking into account international requirements and standards, said the press service.
