Belarus, Vietnam reaffirm commitment to closer ties

MINSK, 27 September (BelTA) – Cooperation opportunities and prospects between Belarus and Vietnam were discussed at the meeting of Chairman of the Council of the Republic Mikhail Myasnikovich with Acting President of Vietnam Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh on 26 September. Mikhail Myasnikovich came to Vietnam to attend the state funeral for Vietnam President Tran Dai Quang, BelTA learned from the press service of the upper house of the Belarusian parliament.

The parties confirmed mutual aspirations to boost cooperation in trade, economy, science, technology and to scale up interregional contacts.

On behalf of Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko and the Belarusian people, Mikhail Myasnikovich expressed sincere condolences over the passing of Vietnam President Tran Dai Quang. The chairman of the Council of the Republic noted that all the arrangements reached during the visit of the Vietnamese president to Belarus will be fulfilled.

Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh conveyed sincere thanks to Alexander Lukashenko and the Belarusian nation for empathy and support in this difficult time for Vietnamese people, the press service noted.

During the visit to Vietnam, Mikhail Myasnikovich went to Hung Yen Province where he met with People's Committee Chair of the province Nguyen Van Cuong. They discussed cooperation in car making and production of dairy products, as well as a possibility to set up joint ventures in Hung Yen Province.

Apart from that, Mikhail Myasnikovich toured the production premises of the MAZ Asia truck assembly factory. He reviewed progress in implementing the project to set up a joint venture to assemble MAZ trucks on the territory of Vietnam.

On 26 September Mikhail Myasnikovich, who is also Doctor Honoris Causa of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, met with head of the academy Chau Van Minh. The parties discussed major aspects of the bilateral cooperation in science, technology, academic education and other issues of mutual interest.
