Belarus to close its embassy in Libya

MINSK, 8 December (BelTA) – The operation of Belarus' diplomatic mission in Libya will be suspended. The decision is stipulated in Resolution No.1137 of the Council of Ministers of 4 December 2014, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian government.

The document reads that the embassy is to be shut down till 31 December 2014. “The Belarusian Foreign Ministry shall take all the necessary measures to close the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in Libya. All the expenses have to be covered from the funds allocated for its operation,” the resolution states.

Resolution No.1530 of the Council of Ministers of 5 October 2000 to open a Belarusian Embassy in Libya was declared void.

The Foreign Ministry explained that the Embassy of Belarus in the Libyan capital Tripoli is not operating due to the escalation of the military conflict in the country. In case of need, Belarusian citizens should address the embassies and consulates of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation in Libya's neighboring countries.
