MINSK, 13 July (BelTA) – Belarus invites the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) to assist in practice with creating a network of national coordinators for reaching the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told BelTA after the latest session of the High-level Political Forum on reaching the SDGs at the regional level.
Irina Velichko, Belarus' charge d'affaires in the UN, took part in the session in the UN HQ. She invited the UNECE to get involved in practical assistance with creating a partnership network of national SDG coordinators for the sake of sharing the best practices. The Belarusian diplomat noted the important role the UNECE plays in ensuring stability at the national level and, in particular, the effect of the organization's annual regional forum on sustainable development. Irina Velichko described the forum as a unique venue for sharing the best SDG achievement practices for countries in the region.
Irina Velichko presented the main results of the regional forum of SDG coordinators, which took place in Minsk in February 2018. She urged to advance regional cooperation for reaching the SDGs.
Heads of UN regional economic commissions took part in the meeting in the UN HQ, including UNECE Executive Secretary Olga Algayerova.
