MINSK, 4 May (BelTA) - Belarus is interested in linking the Belt and Road initiative and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Chairman of the Council of the Republic Mikhail Myasnikovich said at the meeting with the Chinese journalists, BelTA has learned.
Mikhail Myasnikovich said that Belarus pays special attention to the Belt and Road initiative voiced by Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2013. Belarus strongly promotes the project and would like to see it aligned with the EAEU. “We do not view these projects in isolation. We are working out the conditions for their alignment,” he said.
The chairman of the Council of the Republic is confident that it is stability and efficiency rather than speed that are the main things in the alignment of the main goals of the Eurasian Economic Union and the Silk Road Economic Belt. “This is a very delicate issue. We should take everyone's interests into account,” he added.
Mikhail Myasnikovich also spoke about the implementation of the Chinese-Belarusian industrial park Great Stone project. “This is an economic logistics hub that will help China actively advance its interests to the EU,” the speaker said. He added that this project is profitable not only for Belarus but also for China. The project will also help address the issues of the Eurasian Economic Union where Belarus plays an active part.
