MINSK, 30 March (BelTA) – Plans have been made to build homes for over 7,000 families with many kids in Belarus in 2018, BelTA learned from Alexander Gorval, Head of the Housing Policy Office of the Belarusian Architecture and Construction Ministry, on 30 March.
The official said there were some 30,500 large families on the housing register in early 2017. The figure rose to 34,800 families in early 2018. “On the one hand, the housing register is getting larger. On the other hand, we believe the housing construction incentives to give birth to the third child, the fourth one, and so on are working. There are plans to build homes for 7,029 large families in 2018. The number of families may vary from 7,000 to 10,000 in the next period,” noted Alexander Gorval.
In his opinion, it is necessary to find ways to more actively encourage population reproduction. “There are compensations for housing construction loans in exchange for childbirths. But building more homes seems a better option. Because it is cheaper for the state to invest in population reproduction than fighting demographic problems down the road. This is why the possibility of increasing state support for housing construction in return for childbirths is under consideration,” said the head of the Housing Policy Office of the Belarusian Architecture and Construction Ministry.
