BORISOV, 23 February (BelTA) – The Belarusian-Chinese car factory BelGee is expected to increase quarterly sales up to 8,000 cars by the end of the year, Belarus' Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Semashko told the media ahead of the final board meeting of Belarus' Industry Ministry on 23 February, BelTA has learned.
“The plant is fully operational. We need to focus on sales and maintenance services. On 28 March I am set to meet with the Geely president, dealers and distributors in Moscow. We need a system to reach the quarterly sales of 8,000 cars in Q4 2018,” Vladimir Semashko said.
The vice premier emphasized that the task is challenging. “Our partner, the Chinese company Geely, has been working on the market of Russia and other CIS countries for more than 10 years. Their biggest achievement was in 2013-2014 when they sold 5,500 cars per year. The annual capacity of our plant is 60,000 cars. We need to learn how to produce and sell 5,000 cars a month,” he said.
Vladimir Semashko added that the company needs to work on the localization of the production. “We need to start producing the steering system here. We are about to sign a document to launch, together with China, the production of seats, radiators, and other car components here. We need to reach at least 50% of localization,” the vice premier said.
The Belarusian-Chinese car factory BelGee was set up in 2011 to produce Geely cars. The first car rolled off the production line in February 2013. The designed capacity of the factory will make up 60,000 cars at the first stage and 120,000 cars at the second stage. The factory will produce Geely Atlas NL3, NL4 and FE3 models.
