Belarusian Mogilevkhimvolokno to launch cutting-edge polyester fiber line in December

MOGILEV, 26 September (BelTA) – The Mogilev-based synthetic yarn manufacturer Mogilevkhimvolokno intends to start manufacturing polyester fiber using the direct molding method in December. The news was released by Mogilevkhimvolokno Director General Piotr Rudnik as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Belarus Mikhail Babich visited the company on 26 September.

According to Piotr Rudnik, it will be the first stage in implementing a major investment project to build a facility to make polyester products. The new equipment with the output capacity of 50,000 tonnes per annum will allow making new varieties of synthetic yarn, which sell well in CIS and non-CIS states. The Russian Federation remains the main strategic partner for Mogilevkhimvolokno, with the company selling about half of its output to Russia. Among other things the new facility will allow increasing the output and export to Russia.

Piotr Rudnik said: “We are discussing the implementation of the second stage of the investment project to develop the enterprise. The stage provides for building a continuous PET polycondensation plant connected to polyester fiber manufacturing lines, a plant for solid state polycondensation and technical yarn production. The project is estimated to cost roughly €120 million. The facilities are supposed to be commissioned in 2023-2024. Raising Russian investments is one of the options we are considering.”

The investment project will allow Mogilevkhimvolokno to renew the plant and equipment and switch completely to modern technologies for making PET granulate, polyester yarn, and polyester technical yarn. The transition will allow considerably reducing production costs in addition to allowing the company to expand the choice of polyester technical yarns.

According to the company CEO, the comprehensive retooling will allow Mogilevkhimvolokno to make competitive products, which will sell well not only in Belarus but in CIS and non-CIS states. In the end it will allow the company to work steadily and more effectively, thus greatly improving economic indicators.
