MINSK, 21 January (BelTA) – In 2016 Belarus' gold reserves increased by one tonne to 39.1 tonnes as of 1 January 2017, BelTA learned from the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus.
As of 1 January 2016 Belarus' gold reserves totaled 38.1 tonnes.
The gold reserves comprise precious metals in the form of bank bullion bars. They are managed by the country's central bank and are part of the state fund of precious metals and precious stones of Belarus. The gold reserves are one component of the country's gold and foreign currency reserves. The gold reserves are used to diversify the asset portfolio.
