BREST, 13 June (BelTA) - Brest Oblast plans to increase trade with Vietnam to $12 million this year, Mikhail Batsenko, the head of the economy committee of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee, told the media on 13 June BelTA has learned.
“In 2017 the trade with Vietnam amounted to approximately $6 million. It has been growing across many positions, but the volume of trade is still insufficient. Last year, Brest Oblast signed a cooperation agreement with Lao Cai Province. Now, work is underway to draw up an action plan to implement the agreement. I am sure today's forum will help us find more common ground. I think we will be able to double trade this year,” Mikhail Batsenko noted.
The delegation of Lao Cai is in Brest Oblast on a two-day visit. On 13 June the Brest Science and Technology Park hosted a business meeting between the Vietnamese delegation and local exporters. The exhibition featured goods made by Bereza meat-packing plant, Brest meat-processing plant, Brestskoye Pivo brewery, Brest Distillery, Beresteisky Pekar bakery, Malorita Vegetable Canning Plant, First Chocolate Company and also dairy plants from Brest, Baranovichi, Pruzhany, and Bereza.
“We do not have many food factories. You can open your representative offices, organize processing lines in our country. Belarus has already been supplying its dairy products to Vietnam. These products are your strong side. Supplies are constantly on the rise,” Chairman of the Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee Dang Xuan Phong said.
Brest Oblast manufacturers organized a tasting event for representatives of the Vietnamese delegation. “The quality of the products is of the highest level. They can be in great demand in Vietnam,” the head of the delegation added
