Belarus started working with Rosenergoatom four years ago within the framework of the action plan on creating the nuclear energy infrastructure in the country. The sides worked together to create and improve the national system for managing the nuclear energy program in Belarus and regulate safety aspects of nuclear energy usage.

“The draft presidential decree is ready. It is being reviewed. It is possible to create such infrastructure within the next two years,” believes Vladimir Semashko. Electricity generated by the Belarusian nuclear power plant will be in demand as part of this project. Belorusneft Company is expected to be the key executor of this project.

The deputy prime minister explained that Belarus is interested in buying Russian gas at a price, which is tied to the Russian domestic price for natural gas. At present Belarus buys natural gas using a formula, which takes into account the price paid in the Russian Federation's Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Area.
