Khatyn Tragedy Remembrance Day

On 22 March 1943, 149 residents of the Belarusian village of Khatyn, including 75 children under the age of 16, were shot dead or burned down along with the village.

During the years of occupation, more than 140 large-scale punitive operations were carried out in Belarus, more than 2.2 million people died at the hands of the occupiers, more than 9,200 settlements were destroyed and burned, 209 of 270 cities were turned into ruins, 628 villages were destroyed together with their inhabitants. 188 villages have never revived.
