WTA rankings: Sabalenka confirmed as 2024 year-end world No.1; Azarenka goes 20th 

MINSK, 30 October (BelTA) – Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus was confirmed as WTA year-end world number one for 2024, BelTA has learned.

In the latest ranking of the year released on 30 December, World No. 1 has 9,416 points. In the past year, 26-year-old Aryna Ssbalenka won two Grand Slam tournaments: Australian Open in January (for the second time in a row) and US Open in September (for the first time in her career). In addition, she won tournaments in Cincinnati, USA, and Wuhan, China. This year, Sabalenka has won 56 of 70 matches. Victoria Azarenka ranks 20th with 2,127 points.These days the leading Belarusian tennis players are taking part in the WTA 500 tournament in Brisbane, Australia. In the second round, Sabalenka will face Mexico's Renata Zarazúa ( No. 75), and Azarenka's opponent will be Australia's Maya Joint (116). Another Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich is ranked 143rd in the WTA rankings with 516 points.
