
MINSK, 6 May (BelTA) – Two Belarusian tennis players will compete in the Italina Open main draw, BelTA has learned.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus, who won the Madrid Open last week, will open the event in Rome from the second round. She will play either Ukraine’s world number 45 Dayana Yastremska or Russia’s world number 43 Anastasia Potapova. Belarus’ World No.54 Victoria Azarenka will kick off her Italian Open campaign against Colombia’s world number 55 Camila Osorio. Last year Aryna Sabalenka reached the Italian Open final where she lost to Poland’s Iga Swiatek. In 2013 Victoria Azarenka reached the final to lose to Serena Williams of the United States.
Belarus’ world number 99 Aliaksandra Sasnovich failed to reach the main draw this year, losing to Katie Volynets of the United States, 6-2, 3-6, 4-6.
The event in Rome will be over on 17 May. The winner will earn 1,000 points and €877,300.
