TOKYO, 26 July (BelTA) – Ilya Shymanovich of Belarus placed 8th in the men's 100m breaststroke final at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics clocking 59.36 seconds, BelTA has learned.
Adam Peaty of the UK won gold in 57.37 seconds. He also won gold in the same discipline at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Arno Kamminga of the Netherlands secured silver in 58.00. Bronze went to Italy's Nicolo Martinenghi (58.33).
The Tokyo Olympics were initially to take place on 24 July-9 August 2020. Due to the pandemic the competitions were moved to 2021 and kicked off on 23 July. Belarus in Tokyo is represented by 108 athletes in 20 sports.
