TOKYO, 26 July (BelTA) – Belarus' world number 3 Aryna Sabalenka lost to Croatia's world number 47 Donna Vekic 4-6, 6-3, 6-7 (3-7) in the second round of women's Olympics singles in Tokyo, BelTA has learned.
The match lasted for two hours and 32 minutes. The Belarusian cruised past Poland's world number 45, 6-2, 6-1, in the opener. Donna Vekic will next face Kazakhstan's world number 20 Elena Rybakina.
Belarus' world number 79 Egor Gerasimov lost 4-6, 6-7 (4-7) to Italy's world number 31 Fabio Fognini in the 2020 Olympic Games Tennis Event men's singles round two. In the opener the Belarusian defeated France's world number 102 Gilles Simon. Belarus' world number 66 Ilya Ivashka will face Kazakhstan's Mikhail Kukushkin in the second round. In the opener the Belarusian beat world's number 18 Gael Monfils of France. Ilya Ivashka and Egor Gerasimov lost the doubles opener to Marcus Daniell and Michael Venus 3-6, 6-7 (6-8).
The 2020 Olympic Games Tennis Event will be over on 1 August.
