Ten medals for Belarus on third day of Children of Asia Games

MINSK, 28 June (BelTA) - The third competition day of the 8th Children of Asia International Games has wrapped up in Yakutsk, BelTA has learned.

On Friday, 28 June, Team Belarus won ten medals (3-4-3). The greatest contribution to the tally was made by swimmers: gold in the boys' 4x100m freestyle relay and silver in the girls’ 4x100m freestyle relay. In addition, Matvey Danilov (200m, butterfly), Irina Gurskaya (200m, butterfly) and Roman Galmak (100m, freestyle) won silver, and Timur Korenkov took bronze in the 100m.

In rhythmic gymnastics the Belarusian team claimed gold in the group exercises. In the individual events Kira Babkevich and Margarita Zhurovich finished 8th and 9th, respectively, among 29 participants. Tomorrow Kira Babkevich will compete in the ribbon finals and Margarita Zhurovich – in the ball and clubs finals. Two more finals will be held in the group tournament.

The third gold of the day was picked up by Maria Selivonets and Varvara Zaitseva, who celebrated success in the table tennis doubles. Nazar Matsko and Aleksandr Petrashevsky became bronze medalists in the doubles. On Saturday, the table tennis tournament will continue with the singles program. Matsko and Zaitseva reached the Round of 16. 
The taekwondo tournament came to a close on 28 June. In the opening fight (-49kg), Arina Zhyuk of Belarus won the opening fight against Victoria Krivorotova from the Ural Federal District but lost to Ayalyum Saparalieva from Kazakhstan in the semifinals and placed third. Stanislav Pivovarchik (+73kg) lost his fight for bronze, and Milina Mesko (-55kg) dropped out in the quarterfinals. In total, Belarus’ taekwondo team has won five medals of the Children of Asia Games (1-2-2).

The group stage of the 3x3 basketball tournament continued on Friday. In the boys circuit Team Belarus defeated the team of the Ural Federal District  (15:14 OT) and reached the semifinals, which are scheduled for 1 July. In the girls tournament , Team Belarus beat Uzbekistan (18:12) and the Far Eastern Federal District (21:0), thereby extending the winning streak to four matches. Tomorrow the Belarusians will take on the U16 teams of Yakutia and Kazakhstan.
