
MINSK, 4 August (BelTA) - Belarusian sambo wrestlers have won six medals on the first day of the international sambo wrestling tournament in memory of Honored Coach of the USSR Mikhail Burdikov in the city of Kstovo, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Russia, BelTA learned.
On the first day of the tournament, three Belarusian athletes advanced to the finals in their respective weight categories, with each of them ultimately winning a gold medal. Anfisa Kopaeva (-50kg) defeated local athlete Margarita Barneva, Maria Kondratieva (+80kg) outperformed Olesya Tkachenko from Sverdlovsk Oblast, and Vladislav Sayapin (-71kg) bested Yaroslav Shatokhin from Samara.
Additionally, Belarusian Polina Gramotneva (-72kg), Valeria Khrushcheva (+80kg), and Sergei Lesyak (+98kg) reaped bronze medals at the Burdikov memorial. On the second and final day of the tournament, 4 August, the sambo athletes will compete for medals in seven weight categories.
