MINSK, 21 August (BelTA) – Belarus’ world number 214 Iryna Shymanovich reached the US Open qualifying semifinal defeating world number 156 Sara Saito of Japan, 6-4, 6-3, in the opener, BelTA has learned.
Belarus’ world number 193 Aliona Falei lost to Croatia’s world number 175 Lucija Ciric Bagaric, 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 4-6.
Earlier, Belarus’ world number 101 Aliaksandra Sasnovich secured a solid win over France’s world number 225 Harmony Tan, 6-2, 6-3. Sasnovich will next face world number 191 Heather Watson of the UK. Players have to win three matches to secure a spot in the main draw.
Belarus’ World No.2 Aryna Sabalenka and Belarus’ World No.20 Victoria Azarenka will play in the US Open main draw.
