MINSK, 5 June (BelTA) – Outstanding Belarusian hockey player Sergei Kostitsyn has announced his retirement from sport, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation.
Sergei Kostitsyn started his sporting career in 2002, playing for HC Polimir Novopolotsk, HC Yunost Minsk and HC Gomel. Selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the seventh round of the 2005 NHL Draft, the Belarusian forward had 191 points (71 goals, 120 assists) in 393 games with the Montreal Canadiens and Nashville Predators.
In 2013 Sergei Kostitsyn joined the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) to play for HC Avangard Omsk, HC Ak Bars Kazan, HC Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod, and HC Dinamo Minsk. The forward had 46 (10+36) points in 130 games with the Bisons. Sergei Kostitsyn played three last seasons with HC Metallurg Zhlobin and won the President’s Cup in 2023 and 2024.
Sergei Kostitsyn, one of the best hockey players on record for Belarus, played in seven world championships and the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games as part of the Belarusian national ice hockey team.
