MINSK, 3 March (BelTA) – Belarus' world number 96 Aliaksandra Sasnovich went off to a good start in the ATP Lyon Open singles event on 2 March, BelTA has learned.
In the round of Last 32 the Belarusian defeated Canada's world number 143 Eugenie Bouchard 7-6 (9-7), 6-2. The match lasted for an hour and 45 minutes. Aliaksandra Sasnovich will next face either France's world number 59 Alize Cornet or France's world number 218 Clara Burel for a sport in the quarterfinal.
Belarus' world number 280 Vera Lapko will take on world number 130 Viktorija Golubic of Switzerland in the round of Last 32.
Earlier, in the doubles opener Aliaksandra Sasnovich and Vera Lapko secured a confident win over the French duo of Lis Boisson and Juline Fayard, 6-1, 6-1. The Belarus-Kazakhstan tandem of Lidziya Marozava and Anna Danilina saw off the Romanian duo of Irina Bara and Mihaela Buzarnescu, 6-4, 6-4, and will face Russia's Ekaterina Alexandrova and Yana Sizikova in the quarterfinal.
In the ATP Qatar Open round of Last 16 Belarus' world number 8 Aryna Sabalenka will play Spain's world number 16 Garbine Muguruza. World number 14 Victoria Azarenka of Belarus will face Germany's world number 56 Laura Siegemund.
At the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam, the Netherlands Belarus' world number 83 Egor Gerasimov lost to world number 5 Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece 6-7 (4-7), 5-7.
