Sasnovich out of Adelaide International singles

MINSK, 9 January (BelTA) – Belarus’ world number 83 Aliaksandra Sasnovich has completed her Adelaide International singles run after falling to a 3-6, 6-7 (4-7) defeat by world number 80 Taylor Townsend of the United States, who replaced world number 7 Marketa Vondrousova of the Czech Republic, in the second round, BelTA has learned. 

Taylor Townsend will next face Ukraine’s world number 41 Marta Kostyuk. Aliaksandra Sasnovich moved through the qualifying stage defeating Russia’s world number 71 Elina Avanesyan and world number 609 Ulrikke Eikeri of Norway.

In the women’s doubles Belarus’ Aliaksandra Sasnovich and Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic reached the Adelaide International quarterfinal after seeing off Canada’s Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe of New Zealand. In the quarterfinal they will play Lyudmyla Kichenok of Ukraine and Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko.
