Sasnovich into Tennis in the Land round two

MINSK, 22 August (BelTA) – Belarus' world number 36 Aliaksandra Sasnovich went off to a good start in the Tennis in the Land in Cleveland, seeing off world number 97 Aleksandra Krunic of Serbia, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 in an hour and 35 minutes, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian will next face either Spain's world number 46 Sara Sorribes Tormo or world number 71 Maria Osorio of Colombia. Another Belarusian Iryna Shymanovich (World No.322) failed to reach the main draw, losing Japan's world number 591 Eri Hozumi, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4, in the second qualifying round. In the doubles opener Belarus' Lidziya Marozava and Kaitlyn Christian of the United States will play Marcela Zacarias of Mexico and Francesca Di Lorenzo of the United States.

At the Winston-Salem Open Belarus' world number 51 Ilya Ivashka will open against either world number 60 Jiri Lehecka of the Czech Republic or Germany's world number 111 Peter Gojowczyk.

US Open 2022, the final Grand Slam event of the year, will take place in New York on 29 August – 11 September.
