
MINSK, 22 April (BelTA) – Belarus’ world number 110 Aliaksandra Sasnovich has reached the Mutua Madrid Open main draw, BelTA has learned.
In the second qualifying round the Belarusian beat world number 356 Tyra Caterina Grant of the United States, 6-1, 7-5. In the opener Aliaksandra Sasnovich secured a solid win over world number 549 Mirjam Bjorklund of Sweden, 6-3, 6-1.
The main draw will feature two more Belarusian players. In the opening round world number 48 Victoria Azarenka will face Serbia’s World No.34 Olga Danilovic. World number one Aryna Sabalenka will open her campaign from the second round. She won the event in 2021 and 2023. Last year she lost to Poland’s Iga Swiatek in the final.
The current edition will be over on 4 May. The winner will earn €985,000 and 1,000 points.
