Sabalenka wins third Wuhan title

MINSK, 13 October (BelTA) – Belarus’ World No.2 Aryna Sabalenka completed a historic three-peat at the Wuhan Open 2024 after defeating No.7 Zheng Qinwen of China, 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 in the final on Sunday, BelTA has learned.

The match lasted for two hours and 40 minutes. 

On her way to the final the Belarusian saw off Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic, 6-4, 6-4, defeated Kazakhstan’s world number 35 Yulia Putintseva 1-6, 6-4, 6-0, dismissed world number 27 Magdalena Frech of Poland, 6-2, 6-2 and battled through World No.4 Coco Gauff of the United States, 1-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Aryna Sabalenka became the Wuhan Open three-time champion, winning the two previous events in 2018 and 2019. She earned 1,000 points and $525,100. Wuhan is Sabalenka's 17th WTA Tour title.
