MINSK, 7 September (BelTA) – World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus has successfully defended her US Open title, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian star sealed her victory over America’s ninth-ranked Amanda Anisimova in a decisive straight-sets win (6-3, 7-6) after a one-hour, 36-minute match.
This was 27-year-old Aryna Sabalenka’s third consecutive US Open final. After losing to Coco Gauff in 2023, she defeated Jessica Pegula a year ago (7-5, 7-5) before securing this year’s title. This is her fourth Grand Slam victory overall, adding to her two Australian Open wins (2023, 2024). The win also brings her career tally to 21 WTA tournament victories.
On her path to the final, Aryna Sabalenka dispatched six opponents: Switzerland’s Rebeka Masarova (World No. 108), Russia’s Polina Kudermetova (World No. 67), Canada’s Leylah Fernandez (World No. 30), Spain’s Cristina Bucsa (World No. 95), Markéta Vondroušová (World No. 60) of the Czech Republic, and finally, fourth-ranked Jessica Pegula.
The men’s singles final will feature a blockbuster clash between world No. 1 Jannik Sinner of Italy and Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz, ranked No. 2. Sinner, the defending champion, won last year’s title by defeating American Taylor Fritz in straight sets (6-3, 6-4, 7-5).
