MINSK, 3 May (BelTA) — Belarus’ world number one Aryna Sabalenka made it to the Madrid Open final for the fourth time, BelTA has learned.
Aryna Sabalenka will face off World No.4 Coco Gauff of the United States in Saturday's final at this year's first WTA 1000 clay-court event. In the semifinals, Aryna Sabalenka defeated Ukrainian Elina Svitolina (No. 17) 6-3, 7-5, and her today's opponent beat defending champion Iga Swiatek of Poland (World No.2) 6-1, 6-1.
Sabalenka has defeated Gauff five times in nine previous matches. Their today's meeting will start at 19.30 Minsk time. Aryna Sabalenka won the event in 2021 and 2023. Last year she lost to Poland’s Iga Swiatek in the final.
The 2025 Madrid Open will be over on 4 May. The winner will earn €985,000 and 1,000 points.
