MINSK, 24 March (BelTA) – Belarus’ world number one Aryna Sabalenka will take on Miami Open reigning champion World No.15 Danielle Collins of the United States for a spot in the quarterfinal, BelTA has learned.
This is going to be their seventh meeting. Aryna Sabalenka won all previous six. If today’s match is successful, the Belarusian will next play either World No.9 Zheng Qinwen of China and World No.40 Ashlyn Krueger of the United States. At the ongoing tournament Aryna Sabalenka defeated Bulgaria’s world number 64 Viktoriya Tomova and World No.102 Elena-Gabriela Ruse of Romania.
Three-time Miami Open winner Victoria Azarenka of Belarus, currently ranked 32, lost the first set 0-6 to World No.14 Karolina Muchova of the Czech Republic and then had to withdraw due to an injury. The Belarusian beat world number 55 Anhelina Kalinina of Ukraine, 6-3, 6-1 in the opener. Victoria Azarenka won the event in Miami in 2009, 2011, and 2016.
The total prize money in the 2025 Miami Open, which is to be over on 30 March, is $8.9 million. The winner will earn $1.2 million and 1,000 points.
