MINSK, 30 September (BelTA) – Belarus' Aryna Sabalenka needed two sets to take down Jessica Pegula of the United States, 6-1, 6-3, and reach the second round of the French Open 2020, BelTA has learned.
Earlier, former world number one Victoria Azarenka of Belarus kicked off her French Open run with a straightforward victory over Montenegro's Danka Kovinic. The Belarusian will next face Anna Schmiedlova of Slovakia. Belarus' Aliaksandra Sasnovich saw off Anna-Lena Friedsam in the opener and will face France's Caroline Garcia in her next match.
The French Open 2020 will finish on 11 October. The prize pool of the tournament makes up €38 million. Winners of the men's and women's events will earn €1.6 million each.
