MINSK, 13 January (BelTA) – Belarus’ world number one Aryna Sabalenka went off to a good start at the Australian Open defeating World No.84 Sloane Stephens of the United States, 6-3, 6-2 in the first round, BelTA has learned.
The match lasted for an hour and 11 minutes. The Belarusian will next take on Spain’s World No.52 Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, who saw off world number 87 Sonay Kartal of the UK, 6-1, 7-6 (7-5). Aryna Sabalenka won the Australian Open in 2023 and 2024.
The opening tournament of the Grand Slam series will be over on 26 January.
